A recent SPE article drew attention to a milestone achieved in April 2019, with US production of 12.2 million barrels a day (B/D) of crude oil and condensate surpassing the high-water mark of 12 million B/D, which was achieved in August 2018.
Leading this sustained industry growth has been elevated production in Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, with Texas achieving a new per-month record of 4.97 million B/D and Gulf production reaching 1.98 million B/D. Oklahoma’s production levels also set a new record in April at 617,000 B/D.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, contributing factors in this sustained growth have included increases in rail and trucking transport capacities, as well as the the more efficient use of pipelines. With 23 new fields having either been recently brought online or expected to go online soon, production is expected to increase throughout 2019.
